The free CD that comes with the book contains:
- All high-resolution subframes from Lunar
Orbiter Mission 4 (JPEG files), if adequate data was
received
- All medium-resolution frames from Lunar
Orbiter Mission 4 (JPEG files), if adequate data was
received (plus one frame from Lunar Orbiter Mission 2). Note
that these medium-resolution photos were more strongly
affected by glare, especially for exposures whose numbers
are lower then LO4-096M.
- An index of nearside features whose names are
recognized by the International Astronomy Union (IAU)
- A description of the process used to clean up
scanning artifacts
- Reference notes related to individual photos
- A list of names with diacritical marks
- A list of small features with personal names
("first names")
All Lunar Orbiter Mission 4 photos that were
published in "Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Moon"
by Bowker and Hughes, NASA SP-206, US Government Printing Office, 1971
are included in this CD.
The feature index lists all nearside features in the
master IAU list maintained by the USGS except the small features with
personal names. Also included are several of these small
features and some farside features near the eastern limb, the western
limb, the north pole, or the south pole. Each of the features
listed in the feature index can be found in the annotated photo (along
with the photo number) on the indicated page.
